About this course

Translation Technology and Quality: Advanced Topics

  • This module focuses on the co-existence of automated translation environments and quality assurance concepts (quality assurance, quality control, quality metrics, quality standards). Participants acquire the relevant advanced knowledge and skills to efficiently and productively use CAT tools and translation workflow systems at all stages of the translation process.
  • The module presents a comprehensive overview of recent trends in CAT tools and teaches how these tools relate towards maintaining quality during automated translation projects. Topics covered throughout the module include:
    • Translation of more complex file formats (e.g. XML-based content), translation memory and term base maintenance (e.g. SDL Studio, memoQ and i-Term), cloud-based systems (e.g. MemSource), collaborative functionalities (e.g. Groupshare)
    • Creation of customised quality assurance rules, regular expressions
    • Quality standards, interoperability, data exchange
  • Students acquire practical experience in using CAT tools. Through collaborative translation projects simulating real-life translation work and procedures, students are able to take on different roles (project manager, translator, reviewer, etc.) and acquire skills in translation quality assurance tasks.
